Return to Source Depot

Initiate a return-to-source-depot for an in-transit shipment when it cannot be delivered to the destination. A reason must be provided explaining why the shipment is being returned. The Source Depot Officer is notified when the return is initiated.

Prerequisites

  • You are logged in as a Transporter
  • The shipment is currently in transit and assigned to you
  • You have a valid reason for returning the shipment (e.g., border issues, documentation problems, vehicle breakdown)

Steps

Step 1: Open the in-transit shipment

Navigate to your shipments list and select the in-transit shipment you need to return to the source depot.

Step 2: Tap "Return to Source Depot"

On the shipment detail screen, tap the Return to Source Depot button. This option is available only for shipments currently in transit and assigned to you.

Step 3: Provide a reason for the return

A dialog appears prompting you to enter a reason for returning the shipment. This field is required — you cannot proceed without providing a reason.

Enter a clear explanation for why the shipment is being returned (e.g., "Border post closed due to public holiday", "Missing customs documentation", "Vehicle mechanical failure").

Reason is required

The reason you provide is recorded in the shipment's audit trail and included in the notification sent to the Source Depot Officer. Be specific so they understand the situation.

Step 4: Confirm the return

Review the return details and tap Confirm Return. The shipment status transitions and the Source Depot Officer is notified.

Result

After confirming the return:

  • The shipment begins its return journey to the source depot
  • The Source Depot Officer receives a notification that the shipment is being returned, including the reason you provided
  • The return reason is recorded in the shipment's audit trail
  • Orders in the shipment are updated to reflect the return status
